The Cultural Centre - Connecting Fredericton's Communities

Fredericton’s Cultural Centre Launches New Name, Logo

Fredericton, May 7, 2015 - The former Fredericton Intercultural Centre is pleased to announce it is rebranding as THE CULTURE CENTRE.

"This is an exciting new phase for our organization," says Dan Taylor, president and CEO of The Cultural Centre. “This is a name and a look that better reflects our place in the community, and our commitment to giving cultural organizations and non-profits in Fredericton a place to work in.”

In 2013, The Cultural Centre took ownership of the building located at 28 Saunders Street (former YMCA building), with the goal of establishing a centre for ethno-cultural and settlement organizations in the Fredericton area. With the Multicultural Association of Fredericton as a primary tenant, The Cultural Centre has expanded to provide office, storage and work space for over 15 diverse tenants, including Asian Heritage Society of New Brunswick, , Iranian Canadian Association of New Brunswick, Fredericton Makerspace, Ambulance New Brunswick, Chinese Cultural Association of New Brunswick, and Filipino Community Of New Brunswick.

“We want to move away from being known as ‘the old Y,’” says Taylor. “We are a new and dynamic organization with a lot of big plans for the future. This gives us a fresh start and new energy towards our future projects.”

“The Centre is a central place for Multicultural community where they can have office, meet and greet with other new comers and make new friends. Ethno- Cultural Community had needed a place like this since long, to hold meetings, organize their cultural and social activities and invite locale to participate and learn their Rich culture and art.” Says Madhu Verma, Chairperson of Asian Heritage Society of New Brunswick and the one of the originator of the idea of The Cultural Centre, in 1970s.”

Taylor says The Centre hopes to continue to grow by reclaiming further unused space in the building. More details, including fundraising initiatives, are expected to be announced this fall.
